How to be instantly happier

"Happiness". One of the words that really grind my gears.   We're obsessed with finding happiness. It's the trendy thing to do.

I prefer to aspire for joy. Joy in even the hardest of moments and the shittiest of days. 

But anyway, this post is about happiness and how to get it.  Happiness looks different to everyone. It doesn't need to be wealth. It can simply going to sleep each night knowing you gave the day everything of yourself. There's no right or wrong and it depends on your circumstances and outlook. 

So, I wanted to give you some little tips that I find useful to bring more joy into my life.  Some things I do that make my day a little brighter and the difficult times a little easier to deal with...

TURN YOUR SITUATION INTO AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY

Instead of viewing your problems as a pain in the butt, think how you can use your current situation as an opportunity.  Whether it be for growth or change, from every situation there is something to be gained and learned. Mark my words. So focus on asking the questions that other people aren't.  Create a solution using what is already presented to you. 

STOP THE BLAME GAME

I used to be the queen of excuses and blame. It was easier. I still do it occasionally but what happens when I allow this to consume my reasoning is that I let go of my power.  I'm happiest when I take responsibility for everything that happens to me. You might not be able to control the situation, but you can control how you respond to it. Don't allow excuses to take away your joy.

LIVE IN THE MOMENT

This is easier said than done. Getting caught up in watching the latest episode (or season) of House of Cards whilst scrolling through Instagram, eating ice-cream and snapchatting your friends is the perfect example of doing everything and experiencing zero.  Stop and focus on what is happening to you and around you right now. Open your eyes and you may see something you wouldn't have normally. 

SAY NO TO THE FRENCH FRIES

This is one that gets me every time. Whenever I am stressed or faced with something shitty, I reach for the junk food. But it's a short (very short) term fix. Afterwards I either feel sick or annoyed that I've erased all my hard work at the gym earlier!
